A $15 minimum wage is 'daunting'

Robert Mayfield owns five Dairy Queen franchises with nearly 90 employees. He's been in the business for 35 years.

Austin's minimum wage is the same as Texas overall: $7.25 an hour. But even in Austin, where any push for a $15 hourly rate is likely to be a non-starter, business owners are weighing in.

"I'd say prices could rise by 20% to 40% if that happened," said Mayfield.

He added that a $15 minimum wage would likely bring more creative outsourcing, even going so far as drive-thru communication being handled by call centers, and not store employees.
