Apple's iTunes Music Store is turning 10 next week, but the music software is even older. Here's how it changed over time.
Apple's first attempt at a social network came as part of iTunes 10. It was called "Ping," and it was a massive failure.
Steve Jobs said Ping would help people discover new music and communicate with artists. The thinking, supposedly, was, "Hey, if it didn't work for MySpace, it ... will work for Apple?"
Nope. Ping was killed two years after it was launched.
