In the largest credit card breach in history, hackers stole 130 million card numbers and other account information from Heartland Payment Systems.

Heartland processes credit card payments, so naturally, it was a huge target. Heartland eventually paid more than $110 million to Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and other card companies to settle claims related to the breach.
