Game Boy Advance SP (2003)
2 of 8
This was Nintendo's first experiment with the flip-top clamshell design, and it worked.
It was smaller and easier to carry than the original Game Boy Advance. Its ability to fold and close protected it better in careless kids' pant pockets. The lit screen let you play at night. Its battery was rechargeable. And it allowed you to play the entire library of previous Game Boy games.
All these improvements worked. It was especially popular in the Americas. Nintendo eventually sold 43.5 million of them worldwide.
