4 of 7
Crisis Text Line serves as a modern-day emergency hotline.
The nonprofit startup, founded in 2013, has 4,000 active counselors available around-the-clock to offer free text message support. Its crisis counselors are volunteers who go through a rigorous training process, according to the company.
About 42% of users text in to talk about relationships, 33% reach out about depression and 19% about suicidal thoughts. Crisis Text Line said 70 million text messages have been exchanged through its platform.
