Frank Daniels III, former editor of the News & Observer newspaper in Raleigh, North Carolina, was ahead of his time in sensing the changes coming to the industry. His team started Nando.net in August of 1994. (Nando is a play on N in News and O in Observer.)
Called Nando Times, the online newspaper covered a variety of topics around the clock.
Nando.net was also the first Internet service provider in North Carolina.
"Imagine if all newspapers became Internet service providers, now that would change the media landscape for sure," Daniels quipped.
