Google(GOOG) bought Motorola in 2012 and released the Moto X in the fall of 2013.
The smartphone was critically acclaimed for its innovative features, including touchless voice control and smart notifications. Google opened a factory in Texas that manufactures the Moto X, allowing consumers to custom-design their phones and have them shipped within a week.
But sales have fallen short of expectations, and Motorola never turned a profit under Google's watch.
