Fans hoping their teams make the cut on Super Bowl Sunday are cheering their teams in unique ways. These glass-topped bamboo kitchen boards, featuring Ravens and 49ers football fields, are hot sellers for Picnic Time, a Moor Park, Calif.-based promotional goods manufacturer.
Demand is up for such items as people have more football-related parties at home, said Scott McCormack, director of sales and marketing. "We're hearing that so many people are homegating this year instead of tailgating," he said.
Getting an NFL license two years ago proved to be a profitable move for Picnic Time, said McCormack. Since then, Super Bowl-related merchandise has accounted for 8% to 9% of the company's annual sales. "Consumers have so much passion for the Super Bowl and their teams," he said.
Although the National Football League is under fire heading into the Super Bowl, it is by far the most popular and lucrative sport in America, raking in nearly $10 billion in 2012.
