NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - The first truckload of new Harry Potter books arrived at a bookstore Monday, but there's apparently no wizardry on Earth that can help fans get a sneak peak before the books go on sale at midnight Saturday.

The New York Police Department was on hand to secure delivery of the first truckload of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," which arrived at a Barnes & Noble store in Union Square in Manhattan, near Greenwich Village.

It was the first of many truckloads of books being delivered this week.

The valuable cargo was moved to a security locker in the store and will stay there until midnight Saturday, when the books will be released for sale.

The buzz surrounding the popular Harry Potter series has only gotten louder with each additional title. About 10.8 million copies are planned for the first printing of the latest book, compared to 8.5 million for the fifth book, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix."

Fans are getting ready to celebrate the first new Potter book in two years. According to the Web site PotterParties.com, about 1,800 parties are being planned nationwide to celebrate the latest installment.

Barnes & Noble plans on hosting Midnight Magic Parties at more than 670 of its stores across the country Friday night. The Union Square store will serve as headquarters for the events.

More than 750,000 pre-orders for J.K. Rowling's latest book have already been placed at Barnes & Noble stores and on its Web site, with the number expected to climb to 1 million, according to the book retailer.

Amazon.com has orders for 831,025 copies of the book, according to its Harry Potter Meter -- an hour-by-hour ticker on its Web site that counts the orders placed to date.
