I think that the stimulus checks, like the one my wife and I will get ($2,100), will go toward catching up on bills, or putting some money away for higher utility bills in summer.

It won't be spent on frivolous buying as the government hopes. With higher gas prices, higher grocery prices and utilities, most people won't have much left over for discretionary spending.

It will be be appreciated, but it won't last long. I don't think it will give the economy the "shot in the arm" the government hopes for, or needs, to bring us out of the recession.
