The new Explorer has added Curve Control to the model's standard Electronic Stability Control system. The system helps the driver control a vehicle when it threatens go into a skid. Curve Control automatically slows down the SUV, using the brakes, if it seems to be entering a turn too fast. In this way, it reacts earlier and more dramatically than Stability Control alone would.
For off-road use, the Explorer has an optional system called Terrain Management. It's a system that was first used on Land Rover SUVs -- a British luxury SUV brand that Ford owned until recently. Using the system, drivers can simply turn a knob to select the type of terrain they'll be driving on to improve performance under normal, muddy, sandy or snowy conditions.
