Two versions of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata were tested. Only later-built Sonata's earned the five-star score. Earlier-built 2011 Sonata's did less well in front crash tests and earned an overall score of four stars.

Forward collision warning, optional on the Sonata, is a system that alerts the driver of he or she is approaching another vehicle too quickly and needs to brake.
