This 230-horsepower, eight-cylinder, supercharged race car was a monster on the race tracks of its day. This car was driven in the 1929 Indianapolis 500 and later set speed records of 143 miles per hour in Europe.
Due to the advanced technology that went into the car, Detroit automakers threatened to pull out of the Indy 500 saying it was just too expensive to compete against it. Thereafter, the rules were changed, superchargers were banned and engine sizes were reined in.
