California boatmaker Bill Tritt pioneered the use of fiberglass for car bodies. He built European-inspired fiberglass sports car bodies as a side-line to his boat business. Buyers purchased the body for about $950 and supplied their own chassis and engine to complete the car.
Tritt even advised General Motors in the creation of its own fiberglass-bodied sports car, the Corvette. This Glasspar car was donated to the museum in 1996.
