I was aggressive but legal. I never crossed the line, but I would be very direct. I would take it as a personal triumph when I got debt paid off, and in my opinion, they owed the money, so as a representative of the creditor, I had the right to collect the money.
I understand that collectors can be harassing, but I also know that debtors spring lawsuits on undeserving collectors, and they yell at people too. Debtors physically threatened me, verbally abused me and said things to me that would embarrass a drunken sailor.
I really enjoyed the job, but I got the flu and ended up not being able to make my quota so I was let go. I still find debt collection very interesting, and I read the collection industry newspaper all the time.
