Convicted criminals in central Arizona often get the county lockup. Some get sentenced to the dreaded "tent city," where they have to brave 100-degree summers outside.
But residents of one local town may soon be able to sidestep that discomfort -- for a price.
The city of Scottsdale is charging for use of its unused jail space to local residents who are sentenced to 48 hours or less of jail time in another jurisdiction.
Scottsdale Police don't have an estimate of how much money they plan to raise with the program, but at $189 a day, that city service could cost you more than a stay in a local Hilton hotel.
It's not that swanky, but at least the cells are air conditioned.
