Occupation: Accounts receivable clerk
Age: 23
I graduated from college in May. I didn't have plans, no job lined up, so I came out here [where my mom and dad are living and working] to make some money. It's easier being my age to move out here, because there are more options and choices since I'm not settled down yet.
Working in the accounts receivable department [at trucking company Missouri Basin Well Services], I put tickets and invoices together to get sent out for signature. I also make copies of the signed invoices and send them out in the mail and I file away our copies.
It did feel strange when I first moved out here to be a female working in a male-dominated industry, but just like anything, you get used to it. Since Belfield is such a small town, where the male-to-female ratio is extremely disproportionate, I do get a lot of attention. But I came from a small college town that had a three-to-one male-to-female ratio on campus, so I've dealt with it before.
Most everyone I've met is here for the same reason and that is to work. So I guess it's been easy to meet people because most of them are also new to the area.
However, it is difficult to become more than a friendly acquaintance to someone when you do not know if they'll be around for long or even if you'll be around here for much longer. But I've also heard from other women that it's not so bad moving out here because they have their husbands as companions.
As of right now, I am planning on staying in Belfield for only two years. I am merely here to make some money and pay off student loans before I go for my Master's degree.
