Take advantage of the fall's still-warm ground to plant trees, shrubs, perennials, and flower bulbs. Warm soil, cool air, and some moisture -- but not too much -- add up to perfect conditions for getting plants established, says Myers. Do your digging at least six weeks before the ground freezes.
