Once a year, look at the gauge on your fire extinguisher to see if it's still charged. If you need a new one, buy an extinguisher that works on both kitchen and electrical fires and isn't too heavy to carry. The National Fire Protection Association recommends a multipurpose model that's labeled "ABC."
