The Bay area shares many of New York's housing market problems: It has little open land left to develop, pushing up prices, and high costs in general.
Still, San Francisco home prices have fallen about 25% from their peak, vastly improving its affordability score. But don't get too excited: The city remains well below the national index score of 73.9%.
And don't expect much improvement. San Francisco prices seem to be coming back quite a bit, up about 15% from the lows. That trend will hurt future affordability.
