Life Savers
Life Savers
So named because of their resemblance to life preservers, Life Savers were originally invented because candy maker Clarence Crane needed a summertime sweet to sell that wouldn't melt, as chocolate did. Pep-O-Mint was his first flavor; over the years, more unusual flavors such as Cl-O-Ve, Lic-O-Rice, Vi-O-Let, Choc-O-Mint, Molas-O-Mint followed. The brightly hued, five-flavor Life Savers that we most closely associate with the brand rolled out in 1935.
