Even with pockets of high unemployment in some rural areas,
Virginia's economy is doing quite well compared to most states. With its close proximity to Washington, D.C., the northern part of the state has been buoyed by federal stimulus spending over the last few years.
Though it's still uncertain who Obama's opponent will be in November, Mitt Romney is the likely winner in Virginia Tuesday. Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum aren't even on the ballot after failing to get enough signatures.
