Name: Kishen Ratilal
Major: Industrial engineering
College: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
I was able to get a job at Intel in Chandler, Ariz., as an industrial engineer. It was a tough semester for me since I had to spend a lot of my time searching for jobs and attending interviews.
I applied for almost 80 jobs online, got 25 to 30 interviews and finally got only two job offers. I used all the resources that are available to me -- primarily, the school of engineering's career center. I went there and had my resume critiqued two or three times.
Once I did that, I applied for jobs. Most of my jobs were from the career center. I also applied through other websites, such as Indeed and Monster.
After I had one or two interviews, I became more confident in my interview skills.
I also used some of my contacts. I worked at Intel last summer. I got the internship through one of my friends who works for Intel in Malaysia. I got the interview because of the referral.
I did the internship and they liked me so I got a full-time job a couple of weeks back.
