Name: Ryan Jabs
Major: Construction management
College: Roger Williams University, R.I.
I landed a job with KBE Building Corporation as a project engineer, working out of their Maryland office, with a salary around $55,000.
During junior and senior years, I was the captain of the construction management competition team. Both years the judges of my division were a panel of workers from KBE. The interaction with the judges sparked my interest with this company.
I had interned with U.W. Marx Construction for three summers and one with Gilbane Building Company. During winter break of my senior year, I began sending out my first applications for full time employment. I filled out general applications on construction management websites, but also tried to use my networking to make connections within the companies.
During my spring break I went in for an interview from KBE, who let me know they had an opening in Maryland. I heard back from them the following week, and they asked me if I would like to fly down to Maryland to interview. I had an offer the next week.
I would say my interning experience was my best quality on my resume and it is what stood me apart from other candidates.
