Create a fake company
Create a fake company
Here's an easy way to make a quick buck and land in jail too: Create a fake company, then lay off your fake workforce and sit back and enjoy the thousands of dollars in unemployment checks that roll in.

This is exactly what five people in California did, racking up $800,000 in fraudulent unemployment benefits over a seven year period.

They created 13 fake casting agencies in the Los Angeles area and used personal information from minors at a local high school to create a pretend workforce. Then they filed jobless claims, alleging the kids were laid-off actors, actresses or models.

All five got jail time, with the ringleader sentenced to more than four years in prison.
