Blockbuster On Demand
Blockbuster On Demand
Once the movie rental champ during the 1990s and early 2000s, the company has long since fallen on hard times thanks to the likes of Netflix. The company shuttered hundreds of stores, filed for bankruptcy in 2010, and got scooped up by Dish Network for $320 million last year. (Dish CEO Joe Clayton recently admitted that more stores will close in the future.) One way the struggling business is trying to adapt to the digital landscape is Blockbuster On Demand, an a la carte option separate from its DVD-by-mail service. Unlike Netflix users, who sometimes have to wait 56 days for some new studio releases, Blockbuster customers may have to wait double that time.
