The first version of the Surface to reach buyers will be a Windows RT version running on ARM chips. It will go on sale this fall at a price point Microsoft says will be "comparable" to rival tablets like the iPad.
The Windows RT Surface will be a smidgeon lighter than Apple's iPad, with a thin but rugged magnesium case. The tablet's most innovative feature is the keyboard Microsoft embedded in the cover, blurring the line between a laptop and a tablet. The keyboard function shuts off when the cover is folded back.
