Jaguar unveils its new entry-level car

Too late to the small-car party?

The new XE's body will be entirely aluminum-made most of which will be from recycled sources, Jaguar says. Besides being easily recycled, aluminum also weighs much less than steel. Jaguar has long used aluminum in building its cars.

Pricing and fuel economy figures for the XE have not been announced yet. It goes on sale in Europe next year and in the U.S. in 2016.

One challenge for Jaguar will be that, while it has just started competing with cars like the Mercedes C-class and Audi A4, those luxury brands now have even smaller, cheaper cars in the U.S. such as the Mercedes CLA and Audi A3.
