A lot of work also went into car's aerodynamics, Ferrari said. For instance, a specially designed rear spoiler provides powerful down force, keeping the car pressed to the road, without increasing the aerodynamic drag that would slow the car down.
Ferrari has not announced pricing for the car. Prices for the 458 Italia it is replacing start at about $240,000.
Ferrari's parent company, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, announced plans last fall to spin off the performance luxury automaker as a separate company.
