The Javelin was American Motors' answer to popular muscle cars like the Plymouth Barracuda and Chevrolet Camaro. It was also the first American muscle car to be put into regular use by a police department.
When American Motors is remembered at all today, it's usually for awkward looking economy cars like the Gremlin and Pacer.
