There are few cars more straightforward than the rear-engined air-cooled Beetle. Bodies for the convertible version were handbuilt by Germany's Karmann, making for quality that's even better than already pretty solid hardtop Beetle. Dependable, efficient and easy to maintain, there are few classic cars more user-friendly. Before you buy, though, check the roof, said Falcione. Convertible tops on old Beetles can be pricey to replace.
