Chevrolet Trax

General Motors (GM) is still the king of full-size SUVs but, in a surprising turn, it's also producing some really good small SUVs. In terms of design, you might think the Trax is a bit awkward looking with its high roof and tucked-in front and back. But that shape also makes the interior feel roomy, particularly up front.

It has good steering, combined with a fairly smooth ride for an SUV this small. In all, it's a good combination for someone who wants a small, fuel-efficient SUV that doesn't feel like a toy.
