The South African rand dropped 25% in 2015. The slump in commodity prices has hit many of South Africa's biggest companies. Mining accounts for about 50% of the country's foreign exchange earnings, and the current account deficit, are growing. Unemployment is at 25% and inflation is expected to hit 5.6% in 2016.
Africa's second biggest economy plunged even more after political turmoil in December, when the country had three finance ministers is less than a week.
