Jessica Alba is best known as an actress. But she is also the founder of The Honest Company.
The idea for the startup, which sells nontoxic products, came when a pregnant Alba read the book "Healthy Child, Healthy World" and learned about toxic chemicals in household and baby products.
She couldn't find alternatives, so she started her own business.
There have been stumbles: In 2015, after The Honest Company reformulated its sunscreen, customers took to social media to complain that it didn't work. The company maintained that the sunscreen was effective.
The company agreed to pay $1.6 million earlier this year to settle a lawsuit alleging it had misled customers about the contents of laundry detergent and dish soap. It denies wrongdoing in that case.
