Scott had made jewelry for friends for years before designing her first collection in 2002. She started Kendra Scott from her bedroom with just $500.
Scott lives in Austin, Texas, where her company opened its first store in 2010. It now has locations across the U.S., and its designs are stocked at retailers including Nordstrom and Bloomingdale's.
The startup has more than 2,000 employees and Forbes recently ranked Scott number 36 among America's richest self-made women.
