Take in the Burgandy region by floating down the canal on a luxury barge with a glass of wine in your hand.
The Nenuphar is 128 feet long, has six suites and holds 12 passengers and six crew members. "I would compare it to a small floating inn," said Effie Palantzas, executive director of French Country Waterways, which operates the cruise. The barge is equipped with Wi-Fi, and has a library, lounge and an outside deck.
The schedule includes daily activities, whether it's a private wine tasting or a walking tour through a medieval village or historic cathedral. Passengers also spend one evening dining at a Michelin three-star restaurant.
Canal cruising offers guests independence, said Palantzas. Travelers can get off and explore on their own and re-board at the next lock. "Because tow paths run parallel to the canal you can't really get lost."
Cost: Starts at $5,895 per person*
