The Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona is feeling a pinch from the stagnant economy. "We're $300,000 under budget right now," said spokeswoman Melissa Wieters.
"It's a challenging time of year right now because we are seeing the lines grow longer" for the 250,000 meals the food bank serves each month. The Thanksgiving boxes it provides each year draw long lines, like those pictured here from last year.
The agency also connects people in need to other services, such as electricity and housing assistance. Her staff is "under increased stress to be able to meet the needs."
