How fast? While most routes on the network call for operating speeds of 125 mph to 190 mph, some allow trains to travel at nearly 220 mph.
One train -- Shanghai's ultra-fast maglev -- reached a top speed of 311 mph during testing. In normal service it carries passengers from Shanghai's airport into the city at 270 mph.
