Sure, corporate chiefs' pay often is eye-poppingly high. But at some companies, executives lower down the ladder quietly out-earned their CEO bosses.

Insurance isn't the sexiest industry, but it's paying off handsomely for Brent Bickett. The president of Fidelity National Financial, a title insurance and real-estate services company, runs its mergers and acquisitions unit and oversees its investments.

Bickett, a former Bear Stearns executive, hauled in $13 million last year, nearly twice as much as the CEO, according to Equilar. --M.E.
