Rep. Nydia Velazquez has lots of debts, but not a lot of assets.
By the end of 2012, Velazquez owned two real estate investment trusts, valued at between $30,000 and $100,000 in total.
She sold a Brooklyn brownstone for nearly $2 million, according to Zillow real estate website. That netted her a capital gain of between $15,000 and $50,000, according to her 2012 financial disclosure form.
But she had mortgages of between $350,000 and $750,000 on homes in Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, along with two revolving charge accounts with debts of between $20,000 and $30,000.
Velazquez, who was first elected in 1992, used to have a positive net worth. A decade ago, her home and two individual retirement accounts were worth between $1 million and $5 million, while her mortgage and other debts totaled only between $805,000 and $1.7 million.
