'Tis the season for luxury retailer Neiman Marcus to unveil the 86th edition of its Christmas Book, featuring nine ''fantasy gifts'' ranging in price from $30,000 to $1 million. For each indulgent item sold, the retailer offers a way to give back to selected charities.
Shoppers can find their "once upon a time" this holiday season with "his and hers" Van Cleef & Arpels "Poetic Wish" watches, which feature mini works of art on the outside -- one of a man atop the Notre Dame and the other of a woman at the Eiffel Tower. The scenes become animated as the time passes. On the man's watch, a shooting star moves higher in the sky to indicate the passing minutes.
Both watches are encased in 18-karat white gold and set with diamonds and come in handmade mother-of-pearl inlaid wood cabinets.
The fairytale continues with two business-class tickets to Paris and Geneva to tour the Van Cleef & Arpels boutique and watchmaking shops.
But the true "happily ever after" of this million-dollar gift is that $10,000 of the proceeds will go to The Norman Mailer Center, which offers support and other programs to writers.
