Bali vs. Kauai

gallery honeymoon hot spots
Bali, left, is an Indonesian tourist mecca. On right is Kauai, Hawaii's oldest and greenest island.

Dominated by a nearly 10,000-foot high volcano and graced with lovely beaches and coral reefs, Bali is renowned for its natural beauty as well as its culture. But its location, in the Indonesian archipelago, makes it an extremely expensive travel destination.

Although Kauai may not have Bali's cultural offerings, it offers honeymooners a more secluded, natural experience with similarly beautiful beaches. Given Kauai's warm tropical climate, travelers can visit during the more affordable off-season months without the worry of inclement weather.

West Coast residents can fly non-stop in less than six hours for about two-thirds the price and it will take about one-third the time it takes to get to Bali.
