The Belgian capital is at the epicenter of European politics, playing host to meetings of EU leaders and the European Commission.

Despite all that activity, Brussels has shorter hours than many other EU capitals: The average person works 1,717 hours per year.

However, workers in the city get fewer paid vacation days than elsewhere in Europe, with just 18 days per year.

Average annual working hours were calculated by tallying the number of hours worked per day, and the number of days worked per week. Vacation and legal holiday time were deducted to reach the final figures.
