From farm to urban slum

Startup: Origin
Team: Esade Business School, Dubai
Origin wants to use handheld technology to connect grocery stores in slums directly with produce farmers, cutting out the middleman entirely.
The startup launched a pilot program inMumbai, providing vendors with handheld digital devices where they can place orders with local farmers for fresh produce through Origin's network. Origin also plans to set up its own collection and distribution centers where vendors can collect their orders.
"By doing this, we can shorten the supply chain for fresh food to these communities and also bring down prices," said Jon Myer, part of Origin's team.
