Homeowners are choosing to personalize their space in a unique way -- through custom murals.

Dagmar Vaught, a mural artist in Lilburn, Ga., specializes in scenes and motifs for children's rooms.

While that's kept her busy lately, she's also received more requests for ceiling murals.

Scenes of the sky or space are commonly requested for bedrooms, game rooms or home theaters, said Vaught.

"The housing market has bounced back. It's making people more comfortable with adding embellishments," she said.

Vaught's murals, which take her an average two days, cost anywhere from $275 to $1,500.

"Clients come in cycles. Some months I'll have five to seven murals commissioned, other months just two," said Vaught. But in the last six months, her business is up 25%.
