Xbox Live for the previous-generation Xbox 360 offered a superior online experience over the PlayStation 3. But it isn't so cut-and-dry this time around.
In pushing towards a more entertainment-centric ecosystem, Microsoft obscured many of the core Xbox Live features, including your friends list, party chat, and achievements that were once front and center in the system software. But those features are still there and are good as ever -- once you get to them.
Sony, meanwhile, has improved every aspect of its online component. It placed users' activity feeds right at the front of its interface, making the streaming and sharing of game footage a core aspect of the PS4. It also added an achievements system of its own in the form of "Trophies." You also don't need a premium account to use many of the apps like you do on the Xbox One.
