Looking to the future, Hettle says 3D printing could play a significant role in the automobile industry.
"When we make prototypes -- everything from air vents in vehicles, to cylinder heads in an engine, and shifters -- we use 3D printing technology," he said.
"And that really allows our engineers to quickly create a series of options to test."
