Microsoft updated its sound profile in Windows 10, and it's far less harsh than in previous versions of Windows
Alerts sound more like chimes than heart attack-inducing warning alarms. The "default beep" has two tones now, instead of one. And Cortana's robotic noises and voice are pleasant enough.
