IMDb

web anniversary imdb

Before the Web, people posted on Usenets, which were discussion communities on the Internet. In the early 1990s, they switched to building websites to facilitate conversations.

IMDb, one of the largest sources for news about Hollywood, started as a Usenet newsgroup where film buffs collected and updated lists about movies, including credits for actors, actresses and directors. In September 1993 IMDb became the first website to launch that focused solely on movies. The site is now owned by Amazon (AMZN).
