The job:
Companies can’t make money without taking a few chances. The goal of the risk management analyst is to minimize the chances of failure. An analyst will assess all the factors -- sales, customers, operations, ventures and acquisitions -- and flush out any wild cards they think are too risky. Analysts also help companies limit exposure to commodity or currency changes through hedging. For veteran executives who want to put all their accumulated knowledge to the test while commanding a respectable salary, this is a great job to pursue.
How to switch:
You’ll need a background in business and the ability to spot trouble before it happens. Most companies require a bachelor's degree in finance, but in this tough job market, many want more. Explore the CFA Institute's website at cfainstitute.org for information on certification programs.
